The Eclectus parrot can be found in Australia, Solomon Islands, New Guinea and Maluku Islands (Moluccas). Its conservation status is considered to be secure.

There are 10 subspecies of the Eclectus. The male and female look so different in colouring (called sexual dimorphism) that they were once considered separate species.
